One of the signs of a singer’s popularity is when his songs are covered by other performers!
Amazing Israeli singer Udi Saleas is promoting Nikos Economopoulos by creating perfect interpretations of the songs the young Greek star is singing.
Udi Saleas was born to a musical family in Jerusalem and from his early years dedicated himself to Greek music. He mastered bouzouki and learned a lot of Greek laika (popular) songs. His performances are loved by the public in Israel and his three albums are also appreciated by Greek music lovers.
Extremely gifted, Udi attracted the attention of Paschalis Terzis while singing together with the Greek song legend in Paschalis' club in July of 2008. Udi’s powerful and beautiful voice, as well as his great musicianship, were instrumental in him being invited to be an equal part in the duet with Paschalis Terzis.
Some samples of Udi singing songs from Nikos Economopoulos’ repertoire are available on You Tube, so anyone can see and listen to his interpretations of "Ase me stin trela mou" and "Koita na maitheneis".
The last number is a very original version of a song, which is arranged as a duet together with another Israeli singer Doron Elimelech. Some extra ornaments and slightly different turns of the tune add to this hit by Kapiris/Theodorou some oriental touches.
Another sample, zembeikiko "Ase me stin trela mou" (Kelaidis/Falaras), also faithfully represented in Udi's interpretation, which was recorded live and impresses with the exactness of its performance.
Udi Saleas covers songs by many Greek singers, but I decided to limit my observations to those mentioned in this note, which demonstrate the growing popularity of Nikos Economopoulos. I wish Udi big success in his career and hope he will sing more hits from Niko's repertoire.
And, who knows, maybe one day these two singers will sing something together!
